Dimitri's Epic Post #1
I am reading Epic, a novel by Conor Kostick. Right now I am on page 156. This is a story about a young teenager named Eric who plays a video game called Epic. In this book all the problems in the world are solved in Epic, so that real life violence doesn't happen. Eric lives with his mom and dad on the family farm. There is a problem that Eric faces, his family must win a tournament in Epic or they will be reallocated to a new place and might not be together. Since Eric's 1st character dies, he created another one. Usually people make their player a strong fighter and look like themselves. Eric decided to make his character a female redhead swashbuckler. So far his character been very successful in Epic, he made lots of money right off the start, and he has great attributes. One thing he wanted to do for a long time is to defeat a dragon. That is a very hard thing to do in Epic and if you achieve it then you become famous and get lots of money. Eric and his friends are the first in a long time to slay a dragon. Eric's parents kept a secret from Eric for his whole life. When Eric's dad met his mom, he hit another man. This act of violence can get you put into exile. After the years went by Eric's dad finally got caught. Luckily Eric has enough money to free him from exile now. So far this book seems very creative and interesting and I look forward to keep on reading it.

I like your blog post. But I have a few questions, where is Eric when he plays the game and what does Eric play the game on? Also is it very hard in the game to kill a dragon? - Will
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this book so far. It seems interesting and quite intriguing. I have a few questions though, In the game do you make real money? Why did his dad hit another man and why was the punishment so harsh? Im going to keep reading your blogs to find out what happens next!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an "epic" book so far. One question that I have is this: What exactly is a swashbuckler? Is it some kind of pirate, or different in this book?
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds very exciting and interesting. It must get confusing have to read the words "Eric" and "Epic" because they are very similar. I have two questions for you, first, Do you think that Eric will be able to slay the dragon? Second, Do you think Eric will win the tournement?
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting book. My question is where would the family be relocated if the entire world is involved? Is there a specific spot where people go or do people just get spread out throughout the world in little hopes of finding each other again?
ReplyDeletethis book seems like it is a great read and going to be exciting. you did a great job describing the book and what it is about. i was wondering is how do you win the tournament and how do you get money? i am excited to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really cool. You can play a video game like that. I don't get how it is a tournament though? Is it that you fight other people to advance?
ReplyDeleteI will agree with your other commenters and say that this novel does sound really interesting. You provide a lot of details about the text; keep working to delve a little deeper and explore characters and themes as well. Also, don't forget to include a direct quote somewhere.
